Routine Animal Care

Just like your annual physical, it’s important to get regular checkups and routine care for your pet.  At Foothills Animal Hospital, we provide a full range of routine animal care services.

Just like people, animals need vaccination against common ailments to which they’re susceptible. The most well known — vaccination required by law — is Rabies.  In addition, Foothills Animal Hospital provides vaccination against potentially fatal diseases such as Canine Distemper, Tracheobronchitis, Parovirus, Leptospirosis, Feline Calicivirus, Feline Panleukopenia, Viral Rhinotracheitis,  and many others.

Annual Health Exams

Since animals age many times faster than people, it’s crucial that they get regular health exams.  An annual visit to the doctor for your animal will help prevent disease, injury & pain.  Regular examinations help the doctor develop a medical history, or baseline, making it easier to spot abnormal changes in your pets health.

Heartworm Prevention

Transmitted by mosquitoes, Heartworms are a parasite infection that is very serious and commonly fatal.  Though dogs are a typical host for Heartworms, cats can get them too! We can’t overstress the importance of prevention, as treatment is difficult and traumatic.  At Foothills Animal Hospital, we perform an in-house blood test to insure your pet is free of Heartworms before preventative medication is adminstered. Results are usually available the next day.  Heartworm prevention medicine is available in our pharmacy, so you can be prepared to begin prevention as soon as we give the ‘all clear’.  Heartworms are a relatively new problem here in Colorado, but it is very real.  Here’s where heartworms are a problem:2013HeartwormForecast

Flea & Tick prevention and treatment

Not only annoying to your pet, Fleas & Ticks transmit serious disease.  Fleas & Ticks can happen to any pet – even indoor animals.  Prevention is preferable, but once your pet has them, Foothills Animal Hospital can help you get rid of them.  Our pharmacy has a full range of prevention products and can help you with procedures to eliminate infestations once they happen.

Weight Management and Diet

Obesity in domestic animals is a serious health problem.  We want our furry friends to be happy, so it’s easy for them to put on extra weight.  Maybe only a pound, but remember for your dog, one extra pound could represent a 10% increase in bodyweight – like you putting on 10 to 20 extra pounds.  At Foothills Animal Hospital, we can asses your pet and help you determine his ideal weight.  If there is a problem, we have many dietary products to help.

You can count on Foothills Animal Hospital for all your Pet Health needs!
